Encfs is a free FUSE-based cryptographic file system. it transparently encrypt files, using an arbitrary directory as storage for encrypted files
Two directores are involved in mounting EncFS filesystem: The source directory, and the mountpoint. Each file in the mountpoint has an specific file in the source directory that correspond to it. The files in the mount point provides the unencrypted view of the one in the source directory. Filenames are encrypted in the source directory.
There are a number of ways to install EncFS in Mac OSX Sierra, but … i love homebrew. homebrew download the source code and compiles them locally, so in this guide we will use homebrew.
Hit “cmd + Space” and type “Terminal”, press intro and copy and paste this command.
ruby -e “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)”
This will install Homebrew on your system. If you already have installed Homebrew, you can ignore this step.
To install EncFS (In Sierra) just type this in Terminal:
brew install homebrew/fuse/encfs
You can create an encrypted filesystem for your dropbox using this command:mkdir~/Private
encfs ~/Dropbox/Private ~/Private
Go througth the setup proces. you will be prompted to setup a master password. Make sure you use an strong password and remember it. When you finish you should see OSXFUSE Volume mountend in your system, thats is your private folder
If you log out or turn off the machine and want to open again your private folder, use the above command.
